Parameters of Confidentiality

Communication between therapsit and client and the client's records, however created or stored, are confidential under the provisions of the Texas Health and Safety Code.  The content of your therapy sessions is held in strict confidence, with three exceptions: 1) Client threatens to hurt him/herself or someone else; 2) Client reports information regarding a child, elderly person, or disabled person who has been abused; or 3)  Therapist is court ordered to disclose information.  In such incidences, I am obligated to comply with and/or notify apporpriate authorities.

In order to further ensure your confidentiality and protect your privacy, I do not provide clinical services through email, social media, or voicemail. Please communicate private or sensitive information via telephone or in person.  Furthermore, if you wish to communicate to me issues and/or concerns regarding your dependent child that I may be seeing, I ask that you reserve your own appointment or make contact at a later time in order to safeguard the duration of the session.

HIPAA

HIPAA is the acronym of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.  One of the main purposes of this federal statute is to ensure privacy and security standards are in place to protect the confidentiality and integrity of individually identifiable health information.  Measures to maintain your confidential records are in place for your security.
